The Aftermath

Hi All!

Thank you for all of the good wishes during my headache day yesterday. Unfortunately, it did end up turning into a particularly nasty migraine which had me in bed pretty much all day. I did get up for a bit before Hubby came home but then took more meds and took another nap.

The thing I hate the most about migraines is that they limit my activities so much. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to read and when I am dealing with a headache it is NOT the most appealing thing to do. I struggle with really wanting to read and knowing that it will make my head even worse!

The computer is also a thing which migraines don't "play nice" with. I want to check email and things but the monitor and the headache - not a good combo!

Pretty much the only thing I CAN do when I get a migraine is to hide under the covers and be bored. I do try to sleep- it makes the time pass more quickly and sometimes convinces my head that I am really trying to take care of it so the headache goes away. However, I usually have problems sleeping so I end up just "hanging out" wishing the headache was gone. Even listening to my iPod isn't good with a headache.

There is nothing worse than sheer boredom! Except maybe having all kinds of ideas about things to do- things you can't do with a migraine!

Voice Update: So far, so good. Skor was a bit "active" early this morning (5:00 A.M.) and I found myself with an aching back and neck. That makes me grumpy so I don't want to do my darn exercises but . . . I will TRY to be good!

Hey you, I just heard a show on public radio about Botox and migraines. Apparently Botox decreases significantly migraines triggered by muscles around the eyes or neck. If you could convince your doctor that your lips were involved you could pull and Angelina Jolie!

Glad you're feeling better. I'm so thankful I don't have to deal with migranes!

My migraines have gotten so bad this summer that I've had to be placed on some medications. I would get them a few times a year before, but now it's been a couple of times a month. One day about three weeks ago I got a migraine, and then the next day I had blurry vision/double vision. That incident prompted a trip to the ER, and I went to see a neurologist afterward, who basically told me I had classic migraines and gave me a bunch of sample meds.

I, too, had a migraine yesterday, and this time I took some of my new medicine that was given to me as a sample by my neurologist. I only had one sample in the car, one I hadn't taken before, and that was almost worse than the migraine! I was so spacy and tired I couldn't do anything. It was an oral dissolving tablet. I nearly fell asleep on the car ride home (only a 15-20 minute drive, and I took the pill as we were leaving), and then when I did get home I passed out right away. I got up for just a few hours, basically long enough to make supper, eat it, and watch a little TV, and then I passed out again for about 10 hours or so.

Sometimes when I get migraines, I have to throw up to get rid of them. It sucks. I had one of those this summer. The worst migraine I ever had was also this summer when I had a scintillating scotoma, which is an arc of flashing light, and I had never had that before. I couldn't even throw up to get rid of that one :(.

Needless to say, I feel your pain!
